07 Jul 40 Black Kid + Family Shows on YouTube: A Parent’s Guide to Support Content Creators on #BlackOutTuesday
Today marks the 118th day since the NBA canceled the 2019–2020 season, and the day that we swiftly went into Stay Home orders.
As a mom and a business owner, life for us and many other parents drastically changed. We went from a structured day of going to school and work respectively, to working and learning from home.
What began as a fairly disciplined schedule quickly turned into YouTube and Netflix fests for my daughter to keep her occupied during meetings. If you’re a parent and you’re reading this article, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
I know I’m not the only one, especially since there is data to show that content consumption has increased drastically across the board.
1. Video streaming is up 12% according to Verizon
2. Digital Consumption Remains 37% Higher Than Pre-Covid19 (Feb 3, 2020)
3. The COVID-19 restrictions have meant parents need to increasingly rely on digital tools to keep their kids entertained.
Today being #BlackOutTuesday and with everything that is happening across the globe in support of #BlackLivesMatter and the conscious efforts being made to amplify Black voices, I’ve compiled a list of Black YouTube Channels in Canada and the United States. Why? Because — representation matters. It always has.
For all of the parents who are looking for entertaining and edutaining content that reflects the diversity and beauty of the Black culture, here you go! If you know someone who should be on this list (which is in no particular order), please comment below and I will review and add those that match the criteria to the list).
